Louisiana Residential Contractors: Are You Fulfilling Licensing Requirements?

Are you a Lousiana Residential Contractor? Well you might think you are, but unless you have a Residential Building Contractor License or a Home Improvement Registration - you are not and could be subject to severe penalties.

You can find out more about licensing at the Louisiana State Board for Licensing Contractors website. You can further learn about legal requirements by reading the laws located at the site.

An interesting read for those of you working without proper licensing is the newly passed Act 156 which provides for increased criminalization, fines and jail time.

However, this article is mainly focused on those of you who have obtained proper licensing. Did you know that you are required to complete four (4) hours of yearly Continuing Education? Bet you didn't.

Any person with a Residential Building License is obligated to complete the Continuing Education requirement in order to renew their license. The renewal forms now require certification of completion.

You can check back with the Board in order to find out more about where to find  courses and compliant education, so that you can be certain to meet your obligations.

We all hope that the Board works with area construction organizations to provide for interesting topics (Green Building, Chinese Drywall, Defective Materials, etc.)
